Arterton London
The Luxury of Things Made Well
The key to timeless style is quality materials and craft
In an age where quick turn-arounds and low cost materials take precedence, very few items are truly built to last.
The value of craftsmanship rooted in tradition and acquired with patience, is far from the norm. Yet some makers continue to resist, choosing a slower, more considered path, grounded in integrity and quality.
British Millerain and Arterton London stand among those preserving this ethos. Together, we represent a commitment to enduring quality within a globalised economy.
This is our journey from cloth to craft; one defined by the simple luxury of things being made well.

The Cloth
Every product owes its quality to its materials. Even the world's greatest artisan cannot create something exceptional without a thoughtful consideration of their textiles.
In this case, when navigating the right material for a collection of bags, key considerations were what is durable, classic and reflective of English heritage. British Millerain’s Ranger 18 Canvas was an indisputable choice.
Its densely woven cotton construction, combined with a water proofing finish, provides reliable protection against the elements; resisting stains and everyday wear. Unlike traditional waxed fabrics, the dry-wax treatment retains the cloth's natural handle, allowing it to provide the bag with excellent structure and body without feeling overly heavy or tacky in texture.

The Craft
At Arterton, a group of artisan craftsmen take that cloth and carefully cut it to the pattern of the Arterton Holdall and Briefcase. The bags are a proudly English made collection, each piece is handled with great expertise and a keen eye for detail. Arterton’s approach to bag design works at the intersection of innovation and artistry. The Holdall embodies this principle through generous capacity, but not at the expense of a tailored silhouette. Its expandable construction allows for an additional fifteen litres when required, while
maintaining proportions suited for overhead travel. The reinforced gussets ensure that its, like its materials, longevity is preserved.
The Briefcase draws from traditional British military forms, reinterpreted for the contemporary gentleman. Translated into structural changes which are better suited for the modern lifestyle. Most notably an external passthrough located behind the bellow pockets; designed to house items such as an umbrella without compromising the interior. When wet it remains separate, ensuring no transfer to belongings within. A discreet suitcase sleeve lends further practicality, equally suited to daily use and travel.

The Result
It is a true rarity to find pieces that were made to last for generations. In a world increasingly driven by the disposable, we've lost an appreciation for the beauty of things that age with grace; whether expressed through the softened corners, the gentle patina that develops across leather handles, or the natural wear at the base of a well-travelled bag. These are not imperfections nor an indication of replacement, but a record of a life well lived. Marks do not impact functionality but reflect time and character; shaping every piece into something entirely individual. Arterton London and British Millerain are proud to embody the tradition of quality made products.
