History of The British Millerain Company

Established by the Miller family, British Millerain began trading in 1880 with its head office in Halifax, Yorkshire. It soon developed a reputation as a leader in the field of waterproofed fabrics and in 1922 British Millerain became a corporated Company, moving its head office to Whitworth, Lancashire.
Since the company began trading it has been managed by the Miller family and their successful management is illustrated by the succession of family members who have been appointed as Chairman to the Board.

By 1981, the Company was enjoying continued success and a world wide reputation for the high quality of its finished fabrics. The decision to expand was made and the acquisition of Dux Willesden of Salford whose trade was Cupra Ammonia and Dry Chemical Finishers was completed. In 1983 Mr. M. A. Miller was appointed Chairman and under his direction the Company embarked upon a programme of sustained growth through the acquisition of new properties, Mellowhide Products Ltd., producing PVC. and PU coated fabrics in 1985 and Francis Webster and Sons Ltd., spinners and weavers in 1987.

In 1998 the company acquired Blakes Performance Fabrics Ltd. and in 2000 Carrington Performance Fabrics, incorporating both businesses on the Dewsbury site.

The company now operates through a world wide network of sales offices and agents offering a diverse range of performance fabrics to an international clientele.
